May Board Meeting-Contracts Approved

The Indian Lake Board of Education agreed to two negotiated contracts, accepted donations, recognized student achievements, adjusted the 2024-25 calendar and approved the list of graduating seniors during a busy May meeting.
Board members unanimously approved three year contracts with the Indian Lake Education Association and the Indian Lake Association of Classified Employees that will be in place from July 1, 2024 through June 31, 2027.
Indian Lake Superintendent Dr. Rob Underwood said the negotiation process this spring was smooth.
"It's always very collaborative. Both sides want to work together to do all we can to serve our students." Underwood continued, "For the classified contract in particular, we did a regional salary study and noticed that some of those classifications were below others in our area. Thankfully, the negotiations team worked with us and we were able to give our educational assistants, our secretaries and some of our kitchen staff a little bigger bump to remain competitive in our region."
The board also approved an updated calendar for the 2024-25 school year to include an additional staff work day in December that was negotiated into the contract.
Dr. Underwood explained that crews are working now to repair the hail damage to the elementary gym roof and will continue over the summer to repair roofs at the high school. The estimated cost of the repairs is $1.4 million dollars. Dr. Underwood says the district will only have to pay approximately $180,000 of that cost and insurance will cover the rest.
The board accepted a $15,000 donation from the Indian Lake Athletic Boosters for uniforms. Board member Steve Spath also presented Dr. Underwood with a $4,000 donation from the Huntsville Cornerstone Church Love Offering to cover the cost of mental health speakers in the future.
Several ILHS/OHP FFA students were honored. ILHS had six students receive their State FFA Degree this spring and several more who earned high marks for their projects and team competitions throughout the year.
Indian Lake treasurer Coleen Reprogle offered a five-year forecast update. She says the numbers remain steady since her last official update last fall, but there are some lingering questions surrounding state funding and the impact of the tornado on the local tax base.
Finally, Dr. Underwood gave board members details on the upcoming Graduation ceremonies. There are 133 seniors set to graduate. All graduates will have met Indian Lake High School graduation requirements, not simply State of Ohio recommendations.
ILHS Commencement Ceremonies will take place Friday, May 24th at 7 pm at Laker Stadium. The event is open to the public and tickets are not needed.
The Indian Lake Board of Education will meet again on Monday, June 17th at 6:30 pm in the board office.
