This is the image for the news article titled 2024 ILES Grandparents Day The 2024 Indian Lake Elementary School Grandparents Day was a touching tribute to longtime Lakeview Music Teacher Judy Grubbs.
All students and staff were asked to wear yellow, black and/or white in honor of Grubbs' longtime 5th grade music group, The Stingers. A few students even wore vintage Stinger shirts!
Grubbs passed away in early March. Her sister and longtime companion, Stephanie Dysert, watched from the front row. The Grandparents Day show featured songs Judy loved including the Hokey Pokey, Zip-A-Dee-Do-Dah and Be My Little Baby Bumble Bee.
As part of the Indian Lake Elementary School 2024 Grandparents Day program finale, all ILES students gathered in the Main Gym to sing the song "Lean On Me." This is the song that the ILES second graders sang to end their program on March 14, the night the tornadoes ravaged our community. The performance was meant as a thank you to all those who have supported our students in any way after the storm.
Students then ended the show by singing "Kids of ILE"--a song written by Judy Grubbs to commemorate the unification of Huntsville and Lakeview Elementary Schools when we moved to one building in 2009.
ILES Grandparents Day was moved from its normal location in the gym at ILES to the ILHS Main Gym because of leaks from tornado and hail damage.

Stephanie Dysert had these words once the day was over:
Thank you to the Indian Lake students and teachers for having a great Grandparents Day in memory of my sister, Judy Grubbs. She would have been proud to see everyone dressed in yellow and black and singing her favorite songs. Thanks, also, to Mrs. Mendenhall and Mrs. Notestine for directing the program.

You're the best,
Stephanie Dysert
