On Wednesday, April 1st, ILHS students will participate in the April Lake Effect Day!
(This is not a district-wide Lake Effect Day because of adjusted schedules this week)
Students will learn to "Get Your Mind Right - Dialogue, Not Debate."
The goals is to get students to understand the difference between debate and dialogue and practice skills for having respectful conversations with people they disagree with. A great skill for all!
Our March Lake Effect Day is set for Wednesday, March 11th. We are focusing on BUILDING SKILL through self-awareness. Wear bright colors to represent calm waters, positive influence, and leadership. Everyone makes a wave sometimes, but strong leaders notice it and choose a better response. At Indian Lake, we make bright choices so Every Boat Has a Place on the Lake.
Our February Lake Effect Day is Wednesday, February 4th. The lesson focus is on overcoming bullying by choosing to listen to the words that matter, instead of the unkind words that don't. It is a choice about identity, perseverance, and kindness. Because feeling comfortable helps us GET OUR MIND RIGHT and respond kindly, the dress theme is COMFY & CONFIDENT (favorite hoodie, sweater, flannel, sweatpants, etc.).
Our January Lake Effect is Wednesday, January 7th. The lesson goal is to Adapt and Adjust when things are not going as planned. Our dress theme is to Switch it Up and dress in something you would not normally wear (different color, pattern, jeans vs. sweatpants, dress vs. sweatshirt). Switching it up reminds us to Adapt and Adjust and choose a better response when something isn't working so we can get the outcome we are looking for.

Our next Lake Effect Day is Wednesday, December 3--TOMORROW! Wear your fun or fuzzy socks to remind you to STEP UP against bullying and STEP UP for inclusion. See how creative you can be with your socks on Wednesday and be ready for a great lesson!
Wednesday is our November Lake Effect Day at Indian Lake Schools! We are continuing our theme will bullying. The high school lesson examines diversity and inclusion, while the middle school lesson explores respectful ways to share different ways of thinking. The elementary builds on last month's lesson on what bullying is to learn how to lend a hand when they see bullying happening.
All the lessons focus on how we can continue to MAKE A DIFFERENCE and build a culture of acceptance and accountability by being kind.
To show we are teaming up against bullying and working together, the dress theme is simple...LAKE EFFECT shirts (or Laker gear). Let's have as many people wearing Lake Effect or Laker gear to show that we support each other, that WE MAKE A DIFFERENCE and we BELONG TOGETHER!

The latest Lake Effect lesson helped students understand the real definition of bullying better and included strategies on how to avoid it altogether! Students and staff were asked to wear a hat to "put a lid on bullying!"
Bullying is a term that is often confused with conflict or people being rude or mean to each other, but there are important distinctions between each. Bullying involves a balance of power, and intentional, repeated actions. It can be physical, verbal or social.
