This is the image for the news article titled Celebrating our RetireesSeveral longtime employees of the Indian Lake School District are retiring at the conclusion of the 2025-26 school year. We will highlight each individually over the next few days.

Lisa BealeMrs. Beale’s story is one of achievement, adaptability, and a lifelong commitment to learning and service. Born in Texas, Mrs. Beale’s early years took her across the country—attending schools in Texas, Oregon, California, and Missouri—before she arrived at Indian Lake in 7th grade. She quickly made her mark, becoming a member of the National Honor Society and graduating as Salutatorian of the Class of 1977 right here at Indian Lake High School. She continued her education at Rhodes State College, earning a degree in Computer Programming.  Her professional career began in the technology field, where she worked as a mainframe computer programmer at General Dynamics Land Systems during the early production of the M1 Abrams tank. She later served as a Computer Systems Analyst and Senior Programmer at Grimes Aerospace, all while also co-owning and operating a retail clothing store. Her diverse career path continued as she earned her Ohio Real Estate License and contributed to her family’s appraisal business, while also supporting students as a proficiency tutor and volunteer at Bellefontaine City Schools.  In 2006, Mrs. Beale brought her wealth of experience and dedication to Indian Lake High School, where she has served as Secretary to the Principal for the past 20 years. In that role, she has been a steady, reliable presence—supporting staff, students, and families with professionalism and care.  As Mrs. Beale looks ahead to retirement, she plans to enjoy traveling and, most importantly, spending as much time as possible with her grandchildren. Her wide-ranging career, strong work ethic, and commitment to her community have left a lasting impact, and she will be greatly missed by all who have had the pleasure of working with her.

Congratulations, Lisa Beale!

Julie Grider

Mrs. Julie Grider is an Indian Lake High School alum who came back to her roots. After earning her teaching degree from Ohio Northern University, where she was a member of the Women's Volleyball Team, Grider came back to Indian Lake to serve her community.  She has been in the role of ILMS Science teacher for 34 years. In addition, Grider coached ILHS Varsity Volleyball in the early 90s and again more recently, taking a break from coaching to raise her three children.
Mrs. Grider was recently recognized with the Quest Federal Credit Union Teacher of the Year Award for her many years of guiding students with high expectations and genuine care.
In retirement, Julie plans to spend time with her granddaughter, travel and plan for her son's upcoming wedding.
She is also actively working to celebrate 50 years of Volleyball at ILHS with an event this fall!
Congratulations Mrs. Grider!

Barb Keykens

Mrs. Keykens’ journey is one defined by dedication, service, and a genuine love for her school community. A 1977 graduate of Indian Lake High School, Mrs. Keykens began her career working in the office at Gems Sportswear and later at Fifth Third Bank, before choosing to focus on her most important role, being a homemaker and raising her two children, Adam and Sarah. In 1995, she reconnected with the school community as a volunteer at Lakeview Elementary, which soon led to her role as an Educational Assistant. Mrs. Keykens’s passion for education continued to grow as she moved to the middle school, where she served as a Media Specialist. During that time, she wrote a successful grant that made the school one of the first in the region to become fully automated—an accomplishment that reflected both her initiative and forward-thinking approach. In 2004, Mrs. Keykens brought her talents to the high school, where she has faithfully served as the Guidance Secretary. Beyond her daily responsibilities, she also made a lasting impact as the Senior Class and National Honor Society advisor for 16 years, helping shape countless student experiences and traditions.  Mrs. Keykens’s life reflects a love for the simple joys—photography, painting, a good cup of coffee, and the music of a songbird. As she enters retirement, she looks forward to spending more time with her grandchildren and continuing to give back through volunteer work. Her kindness, commitment, and steady presence will be deeply missed, but her legacy will continue in the lives she has touched.
Congratulations, Barb Keykens!

Deb Metzger
Deb Metzger made Indian Lake her home in 1991 and has been a dedicated part of this community ever since. She began her school career in 1999 as a Media Aide while also supporting students during study hall, and over the years grew into a full-time role serving both the high school and middle school.  Since 2006, she has also been a committed SADD advisor, making a meaningful impact on students’ lives beyond the classroom. Deb has created a welcoming and supportive environment where students feel comfortable, valued, and encouraged to succeed. Through her leadership, she has helped guide students toward making positive choices and building strong character.  Her willingness to go above and beyond for students, both academically and personally, has made a lasting difference. Deb’s dedication and care have left a strong and lasting impression on our school community.  Congratulations, Deb!
