Altstaetter is ready to be a part of a new team and contribute in any way that she can.

“I’ve been nervous about being able to find a group of friends, but being on the sports team right away will be good for that. I’ll also be able to work out and stay in shape,” Altstaetter continued.

“I hope to be a reliable big. I probably won’t be much of a scorer my freshman and sophomore year, but I hope I’m able to give some quality minutes so some older girls can rest.”

Stephanie’s friends, family and coaches joined her at Athletic Signing Day for pictures.

Altstaetter is one of the most decorated girls basketball players in recent ILHS history. She was First-Team CBC in basketball for three years. She was also selected as a Third Team All Ohio player her senior season. In addition, Stephanie was the CBC Volleyball Player of the Year her senior season and a valuable member of the ILHS Girls Track Team.

Martin led the first major group of girls wrestlers at Indian Lake this winter. They didn’t have a full team, but that did not stop them from placing as a team at several tournaments because they were so successful.

Indian Lake standout guard Kale Shoffner will further his career on the hard court at Bluffton University. It was a packed house as friends, family, coaches and school officials joined together as he signed his official Bluffton Beaver paperwork.

Shoffner says is looking forward to the opportunity, “I like how it (Bluffton University) is small. Everybody is friendly and the professors will have more contact with you because it’s not so big. I hope to accomplish a lot, just like I have at Indian Lake, to be strong academically and have a great career in basketball.”

Shoffner is a two-time First Team CBC basketball player and a key member of the Indian Lake football team’s state playoff success for the past three years. But former Indian Lake Head Basketball Coach David Starr says basketball is Kale’s priority.

“He was one of what I call my “basketball guys.” He was basketball first and you always want a couple of those on your team to build the program. He was just one I could always depend on as a player. I think he’s going to be a better college player than he was in high school,” Starr says.  “I think Bluffton’s an excellent fit for him. Coach (Guy) Neal works very well with local kids. I’m excited for him and I also excited that he’s going to be staying close because I can keep up with him more. You he’s become like family, as well as his mom and dad and the rest of his family, so I’m going to enjoy watching him grow.”

Kale plans to study sports management. He is the son of Dave and Janelle Shoffner of Huntsville.
