Indian Lake staff members got a crash course in substances that should not be at school during a recent professional development session.
Washington Township Police Chief Micheal Thompson, Officer Logan Brown and IL School Resource Officer Logan Miller led the informative discussion.
They covered types of recreational marijuana, which is pending legalization in the state of Ohio.
"It's hard to tell, is it candy, is it THC, what's what?" asked Chief Thompson.
He passed around secure packages of marijuana gummies, THC pens and various other forms of marijuana as examples. In addition, he presented several illegal substances such as meth, crack cocaine, fentanyl, heroin, LSD and more.
Chief Thompson showed body-cam video of a recent young drug overdose victim, pointing out the indications of an overdose and how Narcan and CPR were ultimately administered to save her life.
Finally, SRO Miller gave staff members their first look at the new Washington Township Police canine, Hondo, who will soon accompany him at school daily.
Staff members commented that the session was quite an eye-opener.
Indian Lake staff members completed additional curriculum training and planned for the upcoming eclipse during recent professional development sessions. Groups met in subject teams throughout the day. Science teachers specifically researched ideas for teaching information ahead of the solar eclipse across all subjects.
No students or staff will report to campus on the day of the eclipse--April 8th.
