The ILHS Laker Leadership Council met for what could be the final time for the 2022-23 school year recently.
They discussed plans for the remainder of the year and projects to get off the ground in the fall. They plan to continue sharing their R-Factor presentation at public/local government meetings this spring and summer. They also hope to bring back the mentor program at ILES and ILMS for next year. Mr. Underwood also led discussion on expected conduct for council members and the group considered ways to improve the PBIS points program.

The Laker Leadership Council chose their words carefully during a recent meeting with Superintendent Dr. Rob Underwood and several other school leaders. The first topic of discussion was the rise in cursing at the high school and how some educators have responded. The Council agreed that use of appropriate vocabulary is important for school culture and in many other social situations that call for a basic level of respect. They brainstormed ways to encourage others to do better with their words.
In addition, the Laker Leadership Council made plans to explain the R-Factor to local government entities during meetings this spring. Finally, they discussed making adjustments to the PBIS card app so that students can better understand when and why they received a positive point.

The Laker Leadership Council is ramping up efforts to increase R-Factor learning across the district.
Members met recently to talk about upcoming lessons and plan for the new year. The subgroup Lake Effect Planning Committee is working hard to spearhead monthly lessons that improve the culture at school.
Junior Ellie Mouser points out, "Last spring's survey showed that people really don't feel connected to each other or the school sometimes. We focused on that for December's lesson."
December's Lake Effect Day is planned for December 14th and will feature a "snowball fight."
Indian Lake Curriculum Director Kelli Tebbe-Miller also led an activity helping the students consider their identity. They used the "ice berg" example which illustrates the small portion of what others see versus the larger portion of behind-the-scenes values, work, beliefs and practice that may go unnoticed.

The Laker Leadership Council is ready to welcome new members to their ranks.

The group gathered recently to discuss plans for the next few months and some possible freshman members.
Superintendent Rob Underwood says he will continue to use the student advisory team to further R-Factor ideals in the district.
Curriculum Director Kelli Tebbe-Miller says a subgroup of Laker Leadership Council members has been working on October's Lake Effect Day lesson. It will consist of making paper boats and identifying factors in your life that steer you or serve as an anchor.
The next district R-Factor Day will be Wednesday, October 5th.
They entire group will meet again next month.
