DARE Classes Kick Off at ILES

Indian Lake School SRO Logan Miller is daring young people to make positive decisions and live drug-free!
D.A.R.E.- or Drug Abuse Resistance Education--classes began during Red Ribbon Week for all 4th graders at Indian Lake Elementary School.
Officer Miller told the students, "It's not all about just saying no to drugs. This is about making responsible choices in your life."
During this week's class, students got to look through their special workbooks and practice making good decisions using the DARE Decision Making Model. The model incorporates identifying problems, evaluating choices, and responding to the choices made.
SRO Miller will lead DARE for ten sessions every other week for the rest of the school year. Together they will tackle topics like tobacco, drug and alcohol use, stress, peer pressure, bullying and more. There will also be a DARE Box in the 4th grade pod where students can submit questions anonymously that they'd like SRO Miller to answer.
Earlier this fall, Officer Miller completed a two week training to receive his DARE teaching certification through the Washington Township Police Department.
