The purpose of this message is to provide the school community general awareness of one positive cases of Covid-19 involving an individual at ILHS, one positive case involving an individual at ILMS and one positive case involving an individual at ILES. The families of any students who were in direct contact with these individuals will be notified by a letter sent home. It is recommended that any student who receives this notification wear a mask for ten days and watch closely for symptoms to arise.

As of Monday, January 3, 2002, this the latest guidance by the Logan County Health District:

Isolation- anyone who tests positive for COVID-19 will need to isolate for five (5) days after their symptoms started, or if they had no symptoms the date they were tested.  Isolation can end after five (5) days as long as the patient has been fever-free for 24 hours and symptoms are improving.  The patient needs to wear a mask for an additional five (5) days after the end of isolation.  Those who are ill with COVID-19 should notify all persons with whom they had close contact while infectious.  According to the latest guidance, persons with COVID-19 are most infectious starting two (2) days before the start of their symptoms through three (3) days after symptoms started.

Quarantine- it is recommended that anyone who was exposed to someone with COVID-19 quarantine for five (5) days, then continue to wear a mask for five (5) days after.  If a five (5) day quarantine is not feasible, it is imperative that an exposed person wear a mask at all times when around others for ten (10) days after exposure.  With the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance stating a quarantine, if not feasible, can be replaced by wearing a mask while around others, our agency will no longer routinely mail quarantine letters to known exposed individuals.  For all those exposed to COVID-19, best practice is to be tested for COVID-19 at day five (5) after exposure.  If an exposed person develops symptoms, they should quarantine immediately and remain so until a negative test confirms the symptoms are not due to COVID-19.

Also note, we are expecting updated guidelines, possibly with shorter quarantine periods, early this week.

We had a handful of new positive covid-19 cases reported at school today as we returned from the Labor Day break. Please see the latest guidance from the Logan County Health Department that we received prior to the start of school and understand that we are following all recommendations. At this time, we encourage any student or staff member who is not feeling well or who is experiencing cough/cold/allergy-like symptoms to wear a mask and stay home until they are 48-hours fever-free. In addition, we continue to highly recommend masks, with the understanding that wearing a mask is still a family choice at this time. Take care, Lakers!
