Indian Lake educators will use their R-Factor training and Lake Effect tools when implementing the state’s updated method of annual evaluations.

Staff learned about the latest version of the Ohio Teachers Evaluation System, known as OTES 2.0, during the recent planned professional development. Curriculum specialists from the Midwest Regional Educational Service Center led the training and discussion concerning classroom observations, the kinds of data collected and how that data is applied to improve instruction.

MRESC Executive Director of Organizational Development Shawn McElroy told the assembly that they should utilize the R-Factor principles of “pressing pause” and “building skill” when working through the detailed rubric of requirements.

In essence, OTES 2.0 is asking us (educators) to commit to becoming the “best version of ourselves”... I know from the District’s existing work with the R-Factor that IL staff are committed to this journey...committed to doing the hard work so that all have an opportunity to succeed."

OTES 2.0 replaces the current system that has been in place to evaluate teachers in Ohio for more than a decade.

Indian Lake will use the original system to evaluate staff members this year, while planning specific requirements for updated evaluations in the 2021-22 school year.
