Eight members of Indian Lake High School's four Robotics Teams demonstrated how to complete the latest challenges put forth by the VEX Robotics competitions.
For two years now, ILHS has offered a Robotics Club after school, supported by a grant from Honda Transmission Manufacturing and the high school's 21st Century Grant. In addition, ILHS offers a Robotics course during the school day. Ryan Stanford leads the class and serves as the club instructor.
The high school club works with VEX robots instead of other options, like the Lego version that the Indian Lake Middle School clubs use Stanford explains.
"VEX offers more of a real world experience and the robots are more like what you'd find in a manufacturing setting."
Stanford says club members have improved their performance over last year in two VEX competitions already this season. There are two more upcoming competitions where he is hopeful at least one team will qualify for the state event in April.
In addition, students in the FCCLA club made desserts for the board members to enjoy as part of Board Appreciation Month.
In other business, the board considered the 2018-19 school calendar that staff members selected. There is now a 30 day public comment period on that calendar. The board will vote on it in February. Finally, board members voted unanimously to approve the resolution declaring the intent to proceed with placing a 6.85 mill renewal emergency operating levy on the May ballot.
The board's next regular meeting in Tuesday, February 20th at 6:30 pm in the board office.
