All Indian Lake teachers, administrators and select support staff completed Handle With Care training in an online conference led by CiCi Yelton, the Director of School and Community-Based Prevention from the Mental Health and Alcohol Services Board of Logan and Champaign Counties.
Handle With Care is a trauma-informed program for educators and law enforcement to help students build resilience through positive relationships. Experts say this type of training is especially effective for young people who have experienced trauma in their short lives.
Indian Lake Superintendent Rob Underwood explains, "This training gives us another layer to connect with families and meet our kids where they are."
Indian Lake is receiving $19,800 through the Mental Health Drug and Alcohol Services of Champaign and Logan counties to pay for Prevention Education Initiative training, including Mental Health First Aid follow up training and more.
