New Cell Phone Rules at ILS
Posted on 08/14/2025
The State of Ohio recently passed a law requiring all public K-12 schools to implement policies that limit or prohibit cell phone use during the school day. The law aims to reduce distractions in the classroom, promote student focus, and potentially improve educational outcomes. Research suggests that limiting cell phone use can lead to increased productivity, reduced bullying, and better academic performance.
In accordance with this law, Indian Lake High School students can expect changes. Just like at ILMS and ILES, students at the high school will be required to store their cell phone in their locker or in their vehicle from the bell signaling the start of the school day to the bell at the end of the school day. Phones stored in lockers should be turned off or on silent mode. This law also applies to other electronics including smart watches and ear buds.
We understand that this new law will be an adjustment for some students and parents. Rest assured that our office staff is still able to get appropriate messages to your student in a timely manner when needed.
We thank you for your cooperation and patience when it comes to this new policy!
