The Laker Leadership Council is working on several upcoming Lake Effect Day lessons. The group of high school students met with Superintendent Dr. Rob Underwood, Curriculum Director Kelli Tebbi-Miller, High School Principal Kyle Wagner and Assistant Principal Dave Coburn recently. They split up into groups and brainstormed ways to tackle the topics of being respectful, showing others you care, helping others to be better and see something, say something especially related to racism, bullying and vaping in school. Mrs. Tebbe-Miller will work with the groups fine-tune their lessons over the next few weeks.

In a lively session, members of the Laker Leadership Council concentrated on improving communication skills at a recent roundtable with IL Superintendent Dr. Underwood.
Curriculum Director Kelli Tebbe-Miller led an exercise where students worked in teams to matched up scenarios with effective communication strategies. They considered several points of view that would effect perception, including a person's age, race, culture, location and more. It's all in an effort to encourage students to think about how they respond to events and how they get their point across to others.

New members are all set to contribute to the Laker Leadership Council. The LLC met recently to welcome freshmen class members to their fold.
They watched a Ted Talk on leadership and shared some ideas to put into practice for the year. ILHS students are already visiting the middle school for tutoring/mentoring time on a limited basis. Laker Leadership Council members are working to get more high school students involved and scheduled to get into the middle school and elementary school this nine weeks.

The Laker Leadership Council has an impressive list of items they'd like to accomplish for the 2023-24 school year.
They met recently for the first time this fall.
The first order of business was to select freshman representatives for the council. Several 9th graders will be invited to join for their input.
Second, they put together a team to present R-Factor materials at local township and town council meetings in the area this fall.
Finally, they discussed and formed a loose plan to resume tutoring sessions at ILMS and ILES with members of the LLC and other high school students who are interested in participating.
