Indian Lake Board of Education members heard from the district's Director of Special Education during their recent March meeting.
Mrs. Meaghen Tidwell gave her annual update on the progress that Special Education is enjoying at Indian Lake Schools. She says the total number of identified students is about 237, or 15% of the IL student population.
Tidwell reports the department offers services such as classroom inclusion, breakout rooms, resource rooms, other aide services, audiology, occupational therapy, physical therapy, speech therapy, therapy for the visually impaired, specialized transportation and more to help students in need.
Tidwell explained that the staff has made great strides on RTI-Response to Intervention- strategies over the past year, meeting all 10 state indicators for progress.
In addition to regular special education services, Indian Lake also houses Students With Disabilities multi-categorical units for students in elementary, middle and high school. She praised the intervention specialists, aides and the district nurse for being committed to educating students with unique challenges and fragile medical conditions.
In other business, the board voted to purchase one regular bus that will be delivered this summer. The board also recognized ILHS freshman wrestler Owen Pummel for placing 8th in the OHSAA State Wrestling tournament earlier in March.
They will meet next on Monday, April 18th at 6:30 pm in the board office.
