Indian Lake High School students got a glimpse of how to move up in the local job market on October 3, 2019, also known as World Manufacturing Day.
Students from ILHS toured several local manufacturing facilities, including World Class Plastics in Russells Point.
Sophomore Christian Ingle was glad to get inside.
"I am wanting to go into engineering, to actually work on the types of machines they use. So this is a helpful trip," Ingle said.
During their stop at World Class Plastics, Ingle was one of several students to create a basic plastic part on a desktop injection molding machine, before visiting the main floor manufacturing space.
World Class employs approximately 100 people and makes custom parts for automobile manufacturers around the world.
President Mark Seeley says tours like this help students understand what type of employees he needs.
"A lot of times kids think 'I don't want to be on the line.' But here, 60% of our jobs are skilled," explains Seeley. "Many times someone will start on production, but there's a lot of opportunity to move up to something else."
Grant Brugler told to the group how he began in basic production, but received further training. He now works as a skilled technician, setting molds in the machines and programming the robots.
"I fought for this job and I love it... It's a good feeling to see our products out on the street."
Students also toured the engineering section of World Class Plastics and saw first hand how specialized printing is done on small parts.
Later in the day, the group also visited Belletech PowerBuilt in Bellefontaine and another group visited Honda's East Liberty facility. Earlier this school year, several ILHS students also toured Honda Transmission Manufacturing in honor of World Manufacturing Day.
