The expanding Ohio Hi Point/Indian Lake High School FFA program was the main topic at the September regular Board of Education meeting.
FFA Advisor Tanner Schoen gave details of a new program that will involve the creation of a three-acre pasture on campus that will allow students to raise livestock. The pasture project is paid for by a $15,000 grant from the national Bayer Foundation and a $4,000 grant from the local Milroy Foundation. Several local farmers nominated the OHP/ILHS FFA for the Bayer grant, which will pay for fencing and preparation of the land.  The additional Milroy Foundation money will allow for the building of a structure on the property to offer the animals shelter and shade. Work on the project will begin in a few weeks.
The board of education also accepted a $250 donation and framed photo for the ILHS Key Club from the Indian Lake Chamber of Commerce for their role in helping with the annual Labor Day Ring of Fire.
The next IL Board of Education meeting is Monday, October 19th at 6:30 pm in the Board Office.
