Stakeholders in the Indian Lake School District gathered to examine the district’s vision for the future recently.

20 members of the community, staff and administrators from Indian Lake Schools met to confirm what board members call pillars, or guiding principles, at the IL Board office.

Superintendent Pat O’Donnell explained that the district has long had a working vision statement and mission statement (below), but board members wanted to add specific details that reflect the core values of the district.

Indian Lake Board of Education Vice President Mark Albright said, “We want to make sure that the board is in line with community members and staff members.”

During earlier board meetings this school year, board members had identified Campus Safety/Facilities, Academics, Student Experiences/Extracurricular Activities and Community Engagement/Parental Partnerships as the main ideas to include.

O’Donnell said last night’s meeting confirmed that those pillars should be the district’s main focus, “The comments from stakeholders at the meeting indicate we are on the right track with our focus on these four pillars and that, in fact, we are already successfully addressing these areas for the most part.”

Members of the group also discussed areas where improvements can be made and new ideas implemented, including communications, technology, after school transportation, safety training, possible advocates and bringing back a community/student workshop called “Challenge Day.”

District Vision Statement: Indian Lake Schools aspire to create a climate and culture for students, teachers and parents to come together as a learning community.
