Indian Lake High School students will no longer be able to bring cell phones or bookbags to class.

Principal Kyle Wagner and Assistant Principal Dave Coburn recommended these changes to the ILHS Student Handbook. The school board approved the new rules over the summer.

All personal electronic devices, including smart phones and smartwatches, must be turned off and stored in lockers from 8 a.m. until dismissal, except during a student’s lunch period.

Students are permitted to use personal electronic devices during their lunch in the ILHS cafeteria and gym only. Mr. Coburn adds that students will be able to communicate with parents during their lunch period. He says parents are also welcome to communicate important information to the high school office that can be relayed to students when necessary.

In addition, all bookbags, backpacks, gym bags, purses, etc., must be stored in lockers from 8 a.m. until dismissal. Pencil bags will be permitted.

Wagner explains that these new policies were carefully considered and made in an effort to keep students focused on academics while in class, reduce social issues during the school day and keep students safe.

A letter detailing these new rules will be mailed home to freshman students. All other students will receive the letter during Open House Night on August 19th.

Indian Lake Middle School students must keep their personal electronic devices and bags in their lockers during the entire school day.
