The Logan County Spelling Bee Traveling Trophy will live at Indian Lake Middle School for the next year!

ILMS 7th grader Chazlance Moore took the top spot at the annual Logan County Spelling Bee held recently in the Indian Lake High School Auditorium. The event is sponsored each year by the Midwest Regional Educational Service Center. MRESC Director of Gifted Services Erica Baer served as MC, while MRESC Youth Development Liaison Karen Sorreles organized the event. Top spelling students from Indian Lake, Bellefontaine, Ben Logan and Riverside Schools participate.

After 16 rounds, the field was narrowed from 12 spellers to just 2 spellers. Moore spelled the word “irreversible,” followed by the word “sceptre” correctly to win first place.

Riverside’s Kara Klingler was runner-up.

After the trophy presentation Moore said, “It feels great. I feel accomplished….This was definitely difficult and time-consuming.”

Moore says he has been studying the words on the official Scripps Spelling Bee list since Christmas Break with the help of his mother.

Moore posed for pictures afterward with his family and ILMS Gifted teacher Cammie Honaker, who was a spelling bee champion herself while in school.

ILMS 8th grader Czar Dickson also took part in the bee and lasted until the final rounds.

Moore will soon take an online test to determine if he can continue to the regional spelling contest later in this spring.

Congratulations to all the spellers on a great night!
