We are honored to highlight Major David Ross as our first Laker Proud Alumnus. 

Major Ross is a 1993 Indian Lake High School graduate who has served in the United States Army for the better part of two decades, including defending in Operation Iraqi Freedom. 

Major Ross says, “It has been a great career and life to this point. I wouldn't change the things I have experienced.”

Ross completed basic Basic Training, in Fort Knox, Kentucky in 2001. 

His military education includes Advanced Individual Training, 63Y Track Vehicle Mechanic, Aberdeen Proving Grounds (2001); Primary Leadership Development Course (PLDC),  Fort Sill (2005),Officer Candidate School, Fort Benning (2007); Ordnance Basic Course, Aberdeen Proving Grounds (2008); Captain’s Career Course, Fort Lee (2011); Sexual Harassment/Assault Response and Prevention Course ( SHARP), Ft. Carson (2015), and Defense Support of Civil Authority (DSCA), Colorado Springs, Co (2016). 

In addition, Major Ross has earned a Bachelors of Science from Cameron University, Lawton, OK (2009); Master of Transportation and Logistics Management, American Military University (2018), Certificate in Emergency and Disaster Relief, American Military University (2018).

His military assignments include: Motor Sergeant, Fort Sill (2005); Platoon Sergeant, 69th FSC, 2/218th Field Artillery Battalion, Ft. Sill, OK (2006); FSC Company Commander, 52nd Engineer Battalion, Ft. Carson (2009), Executive Officer 52nd FSC, 52nd Engineer Battalion, Ft. Carson (2010), Maintenance Control Officer, 52nd FSC, 52nd Engineer Battalion, Ft. Carson (2011), Company Commander, Whiskey Company, USAREUR, Wiesbaden, Germany (2011-2012).  Battalion S4, USAREUR, Wiesbaden, Germany (2012-2013), SFAT Logistic Advisor, Kandahar, Afghanistan (2013-2014), ).  Battalion S4, USAREUR, Wiesbaden, Germany (2014), Domestic Movement Operations Officer, Scott AFB, IL (2014-2018); Professional Military Education Advisor to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (2018-Present)

Major Ross was deployed during Operation Iraqi Freedom as part of the 16th Combat Engineers, 1st Armored Division (2003-2004), and Operation Enduring Freedom as a member of the 2nd Cavalry Regiment (2013-2014). 

David Ross is the son of Darla and the late Frank Ross of Lakeview. During his high school days, Ross was a valued member of ILHS football, basketball and baseball teams. He was named Second Team All-Ohio in football his senior season. 

Major Ross is the father of four and currently lives in Illinois with his wife, Kari.
