This is the image for the news article titled July Board of Education MeetingThe Indian Lake Board of Education took the final step toward placing a renewal levy on the general election ballot during the regular monthly meeting in July.
Board members approved a resolution declaring the intent to proceed with asking voters to renew the levy in November. The 4.6-mill emergency operating renewal asks for no new money.
Superintendent Dr. Rob Underwood explains further.
"We've had some questions about the term 'emergency' and what that means is that the district is projecting deficit spending in the cycle of that levy."

The current levy is set to expire at the end of 2024.
Superintendent Underwood also gave the board an update on several projects happening on campus this summer. First, the HVAC project work at Indian Lake High School is right on schedule. However, crews recently received news that the chiller unit that was supposed to be installed in September is now delayed until November because of labor and equipment shortages.
"We don't think we'll be up and running with full air conditioning goes for this fall, but as far as the building itself, it will be put back together with new ceilings and lighting down the hallways."
Maintenance crews continue to install new doors and additional security cameras throughout the buildings. Outside Laker Stadium a new gate is awaiting signage for the upcoming season.
Outgoing IL Music Boosters President April King offered an update on the group and predicted that new leadership will be creative and effective.
Finally, the board voted to keep lunch and breakfast prices the same for the 2023-24school year:

Breakfast Lunch

Elementary $1.50 $2.50

Middle School $1.50 $2.75

High School $2.00 $3.25

Adult $2.50 $4.25

The Indian Lake Board of Education will meet again at 6:30 pm on Monday, August 21st. School is set to begin on Wednesday, August 30th.
