One of Indian Lake's own finished first in the Jean Newmeyer Memorial Invitational recently on campus. ILHS runner Caden Paavola won the high school boys race with a time of 17:54.

The former Laker Invitational was renamed earlier this summer in honor of long-time ILMS teacher and cross country coach Jean Newmeyer, who passed away from sarcoma cancer last December.
Jean's family, including her mother Kay Newmeyer,
her uncle Dr. David Livingston, and her brother and si
ster-in-law Tim and Debbie Newmeyer, helped hand out water and awards during the meet.
Dr. Livingston says they were proud to be there and honored by the special dedication of the event. The family gave yellow wrist bands to each IL runner as a symbol of the continued fight against sarcoma.
Also finishing for Indian Lake was Reid Vance 31st (21:52), Carter Burnside 32nd (21:55), Jacob Huhn 59th (24:57), Mason Swygart 68th (28:31), and Dallas Miller 73rd (31:41).
The top performer for Indian Lake was Ella Wagner with a 5th place finish in 22:53. Scoring for the Lakers was Rachel Wahl 14th (25:08), Elayna Richardson 18th (26:03), Andi Miller 42nd (29:20), and Erin Miller 43rd (29:22). Also finishing was Nikita Scheifele 59th (34:40) and Macie Myers 66th (39:19).
For the ILMS teams Kailea Miller and Grant McPherson were the top finishers.
