As 2021 winds down, the Indian Lake/OHP FFA has reached a huge goal for a new project. The chapter has been raising money for several months to build a pole barn on campus to house larger livestock for student projects. They recently accepted a check from the Logan County Electric Cooperative for nearly $5,000. This donation puts them past the $60,000 mark, enough to build the structure. In total, twenty donors have contributed nearly $67,500. They include: the ILHS/OHP Chapter, the IL FFA Alumni, Global Organic Alliance, Wingfield Crop Insurance, Liberty National Bank, the Milroy Foundation, Curly's Meats, Apple Farm Services, Iron City Sports Bar, Quest Federal Credit Union, AG Boogher and Sons, Maple Leaf Family Medicine, Braig Family, Indian Lake Outfitters, Joshua Keith Memorial, Cargill Inc., Sidney, Bud's Marine, Farm Credit, Hollandshead Insurance and the Logan County Electric Cooperative.
ILHS/OHP Advisor Tanner Schoen says the students are so thankful for the support and they look forward to getting the barn erected this spring beside the pasture. Schoen explains they are still taking additional donations that will go toward the plumbing, electrical work, and concrete floors for the building.
For the past several years, Indian Lake FFA students have been raising small animals on campus for projects including chickens and turkeys. Over this past summer, they also raised two steers in the pasture.
