The Indian Lake High School FCCLA used their creativity and know-how to offer a Veterans Day recognition like never before.
The ILHS FCCLA staged what they called a "Freedom Carhop" Tuesday morning, in place of their annual Freedom Breakfast. Dozens of vehicles with veterans came through the line in front of the High School. FCCLA members brought them goodie bags filled with specially prepared patriotic snacks, USA pins and other American-themed gifts.
Seth Schultz is a US Army veteran who lives right next door to Indian Lake Schools. He drove his young sons, Aidyn and Hadyn, over in their golf cart to pick up his goodie bag.
Schultz says, "This is awesome! It's the first time I've heard of a school doing something like this. It really shows they care for veterans!"
The Freedom Carhop saw local veterans who served all the way back in World War II to a few active military members.
When delivering the goodie bags, FCCLA members Hailee Reser and Briauna Chamberlin also let the veterans know about a special video presentation that FCCLA students prepared which is available to watch on the school's website.
When the Freedom Carhop wrapped up, FCCLA members finished up by delivering goodie bags to veterans at Logan Acres Care Center and Campbell House nursing home.

The Indian Lake High School FCCLA is not letting the pandemic prevent them from celebrating our local veterans.
On Tuesday, November 10th from 10 am to noon ILHS will host the first ever FCCLA Freedom Carhop. Veterans and their spouses are invited to drive through the parking in the front of Indian Lake High School, just off of State Route 235. Students will hand out gift bags of specially-prepared patriotic snacks, flags, lapel pins and more. Students will wear gloves and masks when preparing and handing out the bags.
In addition, veterans are invited to view a video presentation prepared by the FCCLA students right here on the Indian Lake Schools website that will be posted the same morning.
For the past decade, the ILHS Family Career and Community Leaders of America has held a veterans breakfast and school-wide assembly to honor those brave men and women who have served or still are serving our country in the Armed Forces.
ILHS FCCLA  Advisor Betty Kimball says the students insisted on finding a way to somehow carry on this tradition, despite Covid-19.
Veterans are asked to RSVP to the drive thru by calling 937-686-8851. Veterans may also sign up to have a gift bag delivered to their home by FCCLA members by calling the same number. Please RSVP for the drive thru or delivery by Monday, November 9th.
