Indian Lake Senior Hayden Pummel solidified his place in the local history books by becoming the first IL Wrestling State Champion in more than three decades.
ILHS hosted a Watch Party in the auditorium, as COVID-19 restrictions prevented many fans from being able to attend the event.
Pummel captured the title in the Division III 160-lbs weight class in mid-March. He defeated his opponent 10-0, after a dominant performance all weekend. Pummel completes a 40-0 senior season, which saw him become the Laker with the most ever wins at 155. Ryan Dickson and Phil Mackesy are his coaches. Senior Lane Mefford also qualified for the state wrestling tournament, but he did not make it to the medal rounds.
Pummel plans to wrestle for Northern Illinois University next fall.

Congratulations Hayden and Lane! Your school and community are so proud of you!!

Watch as students and fans cheer Pummel on from the Watch Party.
