This is the image for the news article titled September Board of Education MeetingThe Indian Lake Board of Education discussed filling an upcoming vacancy on the board during their recent September regular meeting.
One candidate is running in the November General Election for the seat that long-time board member Kim Boswell is leaving at the end of the year. However, current board member Scott Staley's seat is also up for re-election. His petition was rejected by the Board of Elections because of a slight error. As a result, Staley cannot run in the General Election, but board members could vote to reappoint him. After some discussion, board members decided, in the interest of fairness and transparency, to accept resumes and letters of interest for the open position. They will fill the seat by appointment in January 2022.
In addition, in his report Superintendent Rob Underwood discussed the district's Covid-19 contingency plans.

Underwood said, "It looks like the Logan County Health District will force us to close a classroom, or at the very least, require all involved to wear masks, when we have 2 or more positive cases within a class that we cannot track to an outside source. When I talked with the high school students at Laker Leadership Council recently, they were overwhelmingly in favor of masking temporarily, as opposed to shutting down and resorting to online learning. There is a strong possibility that we will have to mask-up temporarily at some point and I encourage anyone who doesn't feel well or who may have been exposed, to wear a mask."

Finally, board members accepted several donations to the ongoing FFA Pole Barn Fundraiser.
The next IL Board of Education meeting is Monday, October 18th at 6:30 pm in the Board Office.
