You have likely heard the announcement from Governor DeWine this afternoon that students will not return to school this spring. This means that we will continue the online learning format through the end of the school year, which is May 20th, 2020. The Governor has not issued any requirements for the 2020-21 school year, but school staff is already actively planning for what next school year may look like.
We are not prepared to make a decision about Prom or graduation at this time. We are hopeful that we can still hold these events at some point when the social distancing requirements are relaxed.
I again want to thank the Indian Lake staff, students, and parents for your patience and efforts during this difficult time. Students, please continue to dedicate yourself to your studies and finish the last month of this school year with your best effort!
Best,
Rob Underwood
Indian Lake Superintendent
Indian Lake students, parents and community,
This update has some information you have already heard, along with much new information. Please read this carefully.
Indian Lake Schools campus will be closed starting at 3 pm Friday, March 13th. All classes, extracurricular activities, clubs, practices, etc. are suspended until April 6th at the very least. This means our buildings are locked and closed to the public and students. However, teachers and staff will have access to their buildings. Offices will be open on a limited basis to field phones calls and provide needed services. Per the Governor’s order and Ohio Department of Education guidance we cannot host students on campus for small groups or gatherings of any kind.
Indian Lake High School will host Primary Election voting in the Auxiliary Gym, as scheduled, unless the State of Ohio or Logan County Board of Elections makes a change to what is currently planned.
Indian Lake Schools will provide online instruction for all students on the school days affected during this time of shut-down. Teachers will use their web pages and/or Google Classroom platforms to provide lessons. The goal is not to replace a traditional classroom, but to provide lessons that supplement what students have learned so far this school year.
Bus Drivers and food service staff will report daily. Food service will prepare meals for all students. Students will receive one standard meal from a unified menu each school day. Bus drivers will deliver those meals daily with the assistance of educational aides. This service will begin on Tuesday, March 17th. Bus drivers will drive modified routes each school day beginning at the target time of 10:45 am. Another bus driver or a bus aide will assist in meal deliveries. To minimize contact, we ask that students or parents watch out the front door or window for the bus to arrive sometime between the hours of 11 am and 12:30 pm. Students/parents should come outside and indicate the number the student meals needed. The bus aid will leave those meals at the end of the drive and return to the bus. Students/parents should then collect the meals and return to the home. Then the bus will continue on. Buses will also deliver to normal bus stop locations in town where the meals will be distributed between those hours of 11 am and 12:30 pm. We anticipate the meal pick-up times will be more predictable after the first few days of deliveries. Meals are provided free of charge to all students regardless of their financial status and all students are assigned to a bus route even if they do not typically ride. If students do not wish to take a meal, simply decline by not coming outside and communicating with bus drivers. The state is not requiring us to provide these meals, however based on feedback from numerous community members, we feel this is the best way to care for our students during this shutdown. Please have patience with us as we try to provide this service to our students in the best way possible.
The third nine weeks ended today, March 13th and we will be finalizing the third quarter grades. Grade cards will be issued when students return. They can also be accessed online through Progress Book for grades 2-12. Grades K-1 do not have access to Progress Book, but can communicate their teachers for updates.
Thank you for your patience during this time.
