This is the image for the news article titled Lunch Money DonationA Russells Point radio station and its underwriters are spotting Indian Lake students some lunch money this school year.
WRPO Board President and Program Director Kevin Fodor recently presented a check for $840 to Indian Lake Food Service Director Susan Young. Fodor explains that the underwriters who sponsor the Indian Lake Schools menu segments on the radio wanted to make a contribution. Those underwriters include Peaches & Herbs in Lakeview, Whit's Frozen Custard in Bellefontaine and the Indian Lake Rollarena in Russells Point.
Young says the money will be used in a specific way.
"When a student, who is not on free or reduced lunch, forgets meal money or depletes his or her account, the school provides an alternate lunch. We participate in the National School Lunch and Breakfast Program, so we are not permitted to provide a regular lunch when that situation arises. However, this donated money will be used to cover the cost of a regular meal when kids forget."
The IL Board of Education will officially accept the donation at their September meeting.
