Camp Braveheart bereavement camp is back this summer for children ages 7-14.
Research in grief management shows that camps are promising venues to help bereaved children develop and build resilience in dealing with loss. In addition to participating in many of the camp activities that Marmon Valley Farm has to offer, campers will also participate in small group discussions, healing art activities, and other grief-related activities. However, the most valuable thing that our camp accomplishes is connecting children to other children their age that have experienced similar loss. Campers leave feeling like they are not alone in their grief.
Due to COVID-19, some adjustments have been made to programming for this year, and space at camp will be limited to 32 campers, so it is essential to spread the word to eligible families in a timely manner.
Online registration is open now at https://www.uhcinc.org/camp.html and will close on May 1st. However, it is important to note that registration does not guarantee admittance. We will admit campers on a first-come, first-served basis, with preference given to campers that have not attended in the past. Participants will be notified of acceptance on a rolling basis. Because our camp is limited this year, we will also offer an at-home grief toolkit to children who cannot attend that will allow them to complete many of the same activities at home.
Parents/guardians will be required to fill out additional application forms if their child is selected to attend camp. A mandatory informational session via Zoom will also be required, should their camper be admitted.
