Indian Lake students who are 18-years of age are getting registered to vote in the upcoming general election and practicing on sample ballots. Several students who are eligible to cast a ballot in the November election met with officials from the Logan County Board of Elections recently. Director Adam Brannon highlighted several local elections where the votes of 18-year olds affected the outcome and some where the outcome could have been much different if more 18-year old had cast a ballot. Brannon also encouraged the young people to understand the way government operates. He said, "Remember where your tax dollars go and know the people who are in charge. With your vote you can make sure they use the tax money the way you want them to."
Students also learned about the opportunity to become a poll worker for elections, which is something select ILHS students have done for the past few years. Indian Lake High School houses four voting precincts including Washington Township North and South, Stokes Southeast and Russells Point. They also got a chance to "vote" an actual ballot featuring several questions not related to the upcoming election. The deadline to register for the November General Election is October 10th.
