ILHS Art Teacher Mrs. Erin Miller joins an elite group of Logan County educators. She was introduced as one of the three 2015-2016 Bellefontaine Rotary Club "Excellence in Teaching" Award recipients in a special luncheon on May 2nd at the Logan County Friendly Senior Center in Bellefontaine.  ILHS Principal Rob Underwood and ILHS senior Tori Lones nominated Miller.  Underwood spoke at the ceremony, saying he admires Miller's passion for bringing out the best in her students as artists and as people.   "Mrs. Miller even helped an autistic student find his niche and develop social skills outside of the classroom."
Senior art student Tori Lones also attended the ceremony. On her nomination form she wrote, "Her teaching skills extend beyond that of the art-related realm and she encourages and inspires students on a daily basis. She encourages us to do better and to see the world in new ways, and taught me to portray things in my own artwork."
Miller thanked those who nominated her, her family and her co-workers during her acceptance speech remarking, "It is wonderful to be a part of a staff whose drive and determination to improve student learning and experiences is as great as mine. To say it is like being a part of family would be an understatement and I can't imagine teaching anywhere else."  Other educators receiving the Excellence in Teaching Award this year were Ohio Hi Point Career Center's Ryan Gilbert and Benjamin Logan's Trisha Hemmelgarn. A total of 69 local educators have received the award over the past 24 years.
Miller teachers Art I, Art II, Art III, Art IV, Ceramics, Advanced Ceramics and Painting.
